Growing a Healthier, More Active Community! In 2017, Live Well Lawrence County partnered with the Bedford Parks & Recreation Department to open a new community garden park at the corner of 'H' and 5th Streets. The overall goal was to create a public place that could help people of all ages improve their physical and mental health at the same time. After creating a unique landscape design concept, hosting a United Way service day, and raising more than $135,000 from local donors, garden construction is currently underway! Once complete, this space will feature 62 plots of varying sizes, a tool shed + tool share program, fruit trees and berries, a passive solar greenhouse, walking path, playground, shelter house, benches, picnic tables, public restrooms, deer fence, tree screen, and ornamental plantings.
This will be a place where residents can safely spend time outdoors, being physically active, growing fresh produce to share with their families and neighbors. In future years we also plan to offer programs and events focused on gardening education and healthy cooking techniques.
